Elders

Tomlinson FamilyGlenn Tomlinson was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in a godly Christian home, coming to faith in Christ at an early age. A graduate of University of Toronto in Commerce, he worked in the financial services industry for 15 years. During this time he also served in leadership roles at Jarvis Street Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church and Port Perry Baptist church, all in the greater Toronto area. Recognizing Gods call on his life, he entered vocational ministry in the summer of 2005, taking up the position as pastor of Sovereign Grace Community Church, Sarnia, Ontario. He is the co-editor of the book From Strength to Strength: A Pictorial History of Jarvis Street Baptist Church (1993) and the author of From Scotland to Canada: The Life of Pioneer Missionary Alexander Stewart (2008). He is married to Sonja and has 4 grown children, Jared (Martha), Seth (Jessica), Joshua and Victoria (Stephen), three grandsons, Ezra, Malcolm and Lawerance, and three granddaughters, Beatrice, Anna and Phoebe.

Martin VanderelstMartin Vanderelst was blessed to be raised in a God-fearing home and was saved as a young man.  He and his wife Brittany married in May 2014.  They began to attend SGCC in 2015 and became members in the Spring of 2016.  Martin is serving his second term as an elder.

Brian Pelleboer Brian Pelleboer came to know the Lord in his early 30s.  Soon after he became a member of SGCC in December, 1997.  Brian is married to Joan and they are blessed with eight children and several grandchildren.  They operate a family farm in the Sarnia area.

Doug Thomson Doug Thomson became a follower of Jesus at the age of 40, and an active member of SGCC in 2009, shortly after his conversion.  He has held the position of deacon, serving one term, and served his first term as elder in 2012. Doug is also a part-time chaplain with The Rock on Campus serving the spiritual needs of the students and staff of Lambton College, a position he has held since 2014.  In addition to his role at Lambton College, Doug owns a financial services company. Doug and his wife Margaret reside in the Brigden area, are avid gardeners on their country property, and have 7 grown children and 6 grandchildren. 

 

Calvin Christopher grew up in a Christian home and came to faith as a youth. He has been a member of Sovereign Grace since 2008 and lives in the area with his wife, Lindsey, and their children.

Jason Cates 

Ross Christopher became a Christian in his late teens, and he and his wife, Carol, are charter members of Sovereign Grace Community Church (established in 1985).  They have four children and two grandchildren.  Ross has served two terms as an elder, and this is his first term as a deacon.

Lee EsserLee Esser was raised in a Christian home and came to know the Lord at a young age.  Lee and his wife, Laurel, became members of Sovereign Grace in April of 2010 and have been involved with the youth ministry since then. Lee and Laurel have two kids, Charlotte and Tristan.  Lee is serving his second term as Deacon.
